Information about Alice

Hello!

I am a cello and music theory teacher (and primary school music teacher) based in Royston, focusing on making one-to-one lessons fun as well as challenging for all ages and abilities.

I adapt my teaching style for each student. For young beginners I use Colourstrings and Kodaly based material. Lessons incorporate games, singing and fun ways to learn about music notation. For older beginners, I can arrange their favourite music to play. I am happy to teach pupils in pairs so that parents can split the cost. I prepare students for Music Medals, ABRSM exams, ABRSM Grade 5 Music Theory and ABRSM aural tests.

If you have any questions, or if you are interested in cello or music theory lessons, please contact me.

I look forward to hearing from you

Experience: I studied Music at Oxford University and gained my PGCE from Exeter University. I was awarded the Ted Wragg Award for Outstanding Teacher Trainee.

Starting to play the cello from age seven, I gained Grade 8 with distinction at fifteen. I played an active role in school music – performing in Devon, London and touring to Boston, US. I was a member of the Devon County Youth Orchestra and Oxford University Orchestras.

My love of chamber music began at university, where I formed a string quartet. I currently play with the Hugo String Quartet in North London.

I gained Grade 8 on the piano and enjoy accompanying friends and family. I continue my own development in music education by attending Kodaly, Dalcroze and Orff courses on a regular basis.

I hold a current CRB certificate.
