Information about Alastair
Having graduated with a 1st Class degree from Oxford, and completed my PhD student at Imperial College, London, I am currently a researcher in Civil Engineering at Imperial College London.
I have over 2000 hours of tutoring experience, in Maths (up to A-level), Physics (up to A-level) and Engineering (degree level).
I have helped students with their Engineering degrees from Oxford University, Imperial College London and University College London. The topics from Mechanics, Biomechanics, Structures, Statistics, Complex Mathematics and Engineering Ethics and Management.
I have helped many students get into their universities of choice, including Imperial College, Duke (USA), Oxford, Oxford Brookes and Newcastle.
I`m a very sporty person, having rowed for Great Britain and played rugby league for South East England Students- I`m currently trying to improve at squash!
Availability: I am generally available during the weekdays and weekend, and I fill up my schedule roughly 1-2 weeks in advance. Please get in contact and we can organise a time that suits both of us!
Willing to travel: 3 miles
Experience: I have been a tutor in Maths and Physics since I was studying at school myself. I continued providing tutoring services while studying university, helping with everything from understanding basic concepts to exam technique.
Outside of tutoring I have worked as a drilling engineer in the Oil and Gas industry for the past three years, using maths and physics in real world applications. This has given me a huge amount of experience in terms of what is achievable with a science background, and has definitely improved what I can contribute in a teaching environment.
Finally, I help teach various Engineering and Maths modules at Imperial College London, so I have a lot of insight into what Universities want out of their students (or prospective students).
I personally find that an informal tutoring relationship produces the best results. I encourage my students to bring all types of questions to the table, not just academic, as learning is a lot easier and a lot more fun when youre comfortable and relaxed working with the person next to you.
