Strong reading and writing skills provide a solid foundation for all other types of learning. With over six years` experience tutoring English both in-person and online, I am here to ensure that all students have the opportunity to develop these skills to the best of their ability. During this time I have supported hundreds of students through their GCSE and A Level qualifications, as well as assisting with learning methods, university entry and overall academic strategy. ;;;;;I have taught students of all abilities with a wide variety of requirements including long and short term tuition, remote learning, intensive holiday sessions and support for dyslexia and processing disorders. I can cater for students of all abilities from Year 7 up to A Level, either in person or online, and for students preparing for their GCSE and A Level examinations. My training with the 3 major exam boards, and experience as a GCSE examiner, means that I can offer students the best possible advice on exam technique so that they can go into their exams feeling confident that they will achieve the results they deserve.

85% of my students improve by at least 2 grades. My success in improving learning outcomes is based on an integrated approach that takes into account the strengths and requirements of the individual, and works to build independence and academic resilience. I firmly believe that tutoring is not just about teaching students what to learn but also how to learn. This enables students to mature into confident and motivated learners, supporting their progress not only in English but in all academic subjects.

My service is friendly and highly personalised. I design a personal learning plan in collaboration with the student and their parents and tailor-make resources that are optimally designed to support the progress of your child and nurture their unique potential.

Gemma tutored my son in English A level literature in 2019. At the beginning of the year he was getting D`s and finished A levels with a B. He has gone on to study Creative Writing at Arts University Bournemouth. Thanks Gemma!

Tutors Response :

My son enjoyed the time with Gemma. She was helping him to catch-up with English as we recently moved from abroad. But Covid-19 hit and we could not continue for long.

Gemma has guided my son for GCSC English Language and English literature just over an year (Sept 2019 to Oct 2020) until my son re-sits his English Language paper in Nov 2020. My son was at around GCSC grade 5-6 in both the English GCSC subjects when Gemma was introduced in the process, in order to help him to learn and gain confidence. My son started improving consistently under Gemma`s guidance over a period of time - Gemma has been very hard working, thorough, articulate, resourceful and passionate about her subjects and a wonderful personality. Unfortunately the pandemic hits (2019 - 2020) and my son`s grades has become a mere result of prediction / calculation / nomalisation based on his class tests which can`t be very accurate. He got his GCSC predicted grades as English Literature = 8 and English Language = 7. He was not happy with his English Language predicted grade and wanted to sit for a real exam in Nov 2020 and Gemma had been helping him remotely for him to achieve his goal, in fine tuning, polishing and enhancing his knowledge and at the sametime teaching time management and techniques which is very important along with knowledge and capability to achieve top grades. He has achieved a grade of 8 finally for his English Language in his autumn real exam. It was a wonderful journey of understanding, learning, sharing, caring and collaboration to help my son in achieving what he had set a target for himself. Very happy with the outcome and the overall journey. I will highly recommend Gemma for GCSC English Language and English literature. Top Class! Thank you very much.
