Information about Debbie
I live in Stroud, Glos, with my husband and son aged 11.
I have over 15 years experience teaching and working with students and young people in both FE, Sixth Forms and in Higher Education.
I studied Politics and Sociology as a joint major at Middlesex University, 1999 (BA Hons Political Studies) and then studied an MA in Globalisation, Development and Transition at the University of Westminster, 2003 (a multidisciplinary degree in Social Sciences).
I also have a background working in Politics and the Civil Service before entering the world of education and teaching.
I have been offering private tuition now for over 6 years and in response to many requests for private tuition.I really enjoy teaching and spending time with my students and more importantly, I enjoy seeing them do well and improve and s I have many wonderful success stories.
My specialist areas are Sociology, Government and Politics, Social Policy, Media Studies, Study and Higher and Further Education Skills including: study skills, exam skills, analytical and critical writing communications skills. I also offer a proof reading service at a lower hourly rate.
I am an experienced, qualified and highly ranged and skilled teacher and lecturer of Social Sciences.
I have been teaching Sociology, Social Policy, Social Science and Political Studies and English/Communication skills to both young adults and adults in a range of FE and HE institutions- with extensive experience with A Level teaching, at GCSE level and undergraduate.
I have also helped undergraduates with dissertations, essays, exam preparation in a range of social science related topics (ECHS, Social Work, Education Studies).
I have taught /lectured sixth form students, overseas exchange students, Gcse`s, A levels, access (adults), diplomas, degrees and foundation degrees.
I have become very familiar with exam processes for GCSE`s and A levels and the requirements for exams and have had a very good success rate with recent A level students.
I also have experience of working with overseas students who study cross modular programmes in Sociology and Social Sciences and A levels to gain entrance to UK universities and I welcome EFL students.
I believe strongly in innovative teaching that facilitates learning and teaches people to ask questions and discover the debates involved in academia for themselves. To teach in today`s world requires an appreciation and use of technology, social media and networking facilities, as well as a genuine empathy and relationship with students that fosters development and recognises that learning is holistic (enrichment outside the curriculum is essential to my approach).
I go by the motto `teach by asking`.Best practice to me is a continual assessment as part of everyday teaching that re affirms and re tests students understanding testing the skills required for examinations.
For A Levels, I constantly assess students skills every session with timed exam style essays. Also: terminology tests, q and a, mock examinations and media diaries that students develop online to boost essay grades. Other methods I advocate and can use regularly involve: online guided research activities, web based remote learning (lectures, tutorials and support via im services and or/webcam).
I will offer a free consultation and discussion prior to any tuition to discuss student needs and talk about the best plan of action and importantly to also break the ice. Each student is entirely different with different needs, so it is essential to find a mutual plan and design a `tailor made` tuition plan that is aimed at improving the skills to pass exams and assessment.
I also offer discounts to students who wish to study in pairs or small groups. Online Tuition can also be arranged outside of the website and at a lower hourly rate of £20 p h.
One to one tuition is £25 an hour within 5 mile radius of my home, £30 for upto 20 mile radius.

Feedback For Debbie (3)
Debbie has been spot on. Well prepared, very organised and, most importantly, warm and friendly. Debbie has taken a lot of time and discussion to really clarify what our daughter needed from her tuition. I like the way she sets homework tasks between sessions, which means our daughter gets maximum benefit from Debbie`s input. Also, Debbie brings the real world experience of working in this field to enrich the theory. No hesitation in recommending her!
Debbie was really good and really helped my son.
The only thing I would say to people looking for a tutor, with any tutor make sure you are very clear how much availability they have, before you buy their details.
Debbie tutored my son in the weeks leading up to his politics AS level. Debbie was reliable, flexible and knowledgeable in her subject. She taught my son how to approach the exam and gain the mmaximum marks. I would highly recommend Debbie.
