Information about Philippa
As a widely-read university student of English literature, I am passionate about educating younger pupils in English literature and language. I am also a published author, with my first book released in 2016, and have achieved success in many national literary competitions. I am currently studying at the top-ranked university for English in the UK - Durham, and have prior qualifications of eleven A*s at GCSE (inc. English Language and English Literature) and an A* in A-level English, with full marks. I am keen to develop children`s understanding of and their ability to use language, as well as nourishing their interest in literary works.
Availability: I can teach Monday - Friday from 9am - 8pm.
I can also teach at weekends, though availability may be more restricted.
Willing to travel: 15 miles
Experience: I have experience running English writing workshops for Year 5 primary school children and Year 7 secondary pupils, helping to develop both their creativity and fluent writing skills. For two Spanish students in Years 4 and 7, I ran a series of two-to-one lessons to help improve their English speaking and writing ability as a secondary language. Additionally, I have four years of experience in working with children aged 4-7 as a volunteer at a Rainbows Girl Guiding unit, helping them to learn various skills and information for badges and events. I also ran the Collyer`s Book Club (at the College of Richard Collyer) for an academic year (2015-2016), whereby I prepared questions, stimulus, and interesting material surrounding each novel to create debates and discussion at the weekly meetings.
