Information about Charlene
I am a management advisory and business risk consultant with one of the Big Four professional services firms in London. Prior to relocating to London in April 2011, I gained international experience working in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, and Scotland. I hold a Masters degree (with Honours) in Accountancy and Finance and am a Certified Practitioner in Agile Project Management (AgilePM).
Through my professional career, involvement in charitable organisations, and extensive travel, I have developed the ability to engage effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds. These experiences have strengthened my confidence in communicating with stakeholders at all levels, enhanced my sensitivity to understanding peoples needs, and refined my capacity to collaborate towards realistic and shared goals.
I am enthusiastic and adaptable, and I particularly enjoy the outdoors, reading, and swimming.
Availability: I am available most weekday evenings and all day on Sundays.
While my job may occasionally require out-of-town travel, I will make every effort to provide ample notice in advance.
Willing to travel: 10 miles
Experience: I began tutoring 15 years ago when I was in college, teaching Piano and Music Theory. At that time, my goal was simply to support my living expenses. However, witnessing my students growth through our shared efforts and celebrating their milestones brought me immeasurable satisfaction.
Since then, I have continued to be actively involved in teaching, tutoring, and mentoring in various capacities. Below are some examples that may give you a sense of how my experience could be of value to you:
- Through numerous volunteering and mentoring experiences both within and outside of work, I have facilitated and delivered workshops for students and young people on topics such as CV writing, interview performance, career development, post-school choices, confidence building, and presentation skills
- Professional Coaching (Project Management Role):
As a project manager, one of my key responsibilities is to coach and guide junior team membersboth in technical and non-technical areas. Technical coaching includes task-specific and methodological training (commonly known as on-the-job training), while non-technical coaching covers report writing, communication and interaction with clients at different levels, and presentation skills.
- Language and Communication Skills:
Many of my work projects have allowed me to utilise my language proficiency in Mandarin, Malay, and Cantonese. In these instances, I have applied interpretation and translation skills effectively, demonstrating professional fluency in both written and spoken communication in all these languages, in addition to English.
- Mandarin Lessons:
I have conducted Mandarin classes for groups of up to 10 local youths, where I developed the syllabus and lesson structure.
- Music Ministry:
I have led choir and instrumental group as a conductor, responsible for teaching and leading in both musical techniques and performance, as well as managing non-technical aspects such as coordination and team organisation.
- Religious Education:
I have taught Sunday School / Religious Education classes for children (aged 7 and above) and youths (up to 25 years old), delivering Bible stories and sharing their practical applications to daily life.
