Information about Katerina

I am an online tutor and hold a Bachelor’s degree coupled with a UK-awarded QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) certification. I have experience with SEN since 2006. I have taught all ages and worked with ADD/ ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia, speech and language delay, challenging behaviour, autism, hearing impairments, EAL/ ESL, SEMH, SEBD but most of my training and experience is focused on Dyslexia and Autism.

Availability: I am available most days and times with a week`s notice.

Willing to travel: 50 miles

Experience: This tutor is only offering online lessons

Your child`s potential is endless.
Unlock the possibility of this amazing journey from your home.
It will be the greatest achievement of our lives.

Previous skills and experience for Teaching & Learning: I have worked with children from 1 1/2 years old and young people up to 18 years old since 2006 and my greater focus in all aspects is safety. I update my Prevent and Safeguarding training annually and have a Pediatric First Aid certificate for keeping up to date with my duty of care. I started as a private Dyslexia tutor back in 2006 with focus on homework support across all subjects for Primary and Secondary. I followed up to become a Creativity teacher in 2010 for all ages using an extracurricular approach. I used my own equipment to create amazingly engaging fun/art activities for my students and my focus was social, personal and cognitive development. After I relocated in UK in 2017 I started working as a class teacher in schools all over London. I have always worked in the SEN departments of mainstream primary and secondary schools and have experience in a PRU and a Specialist Autism Outreach School. I have been in the past a SEN TA and Tutor, an Interventions teacher, a nurture teacher and a SEN/SEMH/ASD teacher.

Previous skills and experience for Dyslexia: I have completed a University post-graduate course for supporting students with Dyslexia and can follow specialist therapy programmes from an Education Psychologist. I have liaised with Dyslexia Specialists to develop SPaG skills. My innovative Dyslexia lessons can provide a range of tricks to enhance academic achievement and parents will be delighted to realise strategies that are easy and practical. Decoding written information can be a lesson by itself for these students and my previous experience in inference training can make the learning an exciting playful experience. Relevant software I worked in the past with - IDL programme, Reading Wise programme, MathsWatch.

Previous skills and experience for Autism: I have got training for PECS (level 1) and other picture focused tools, ABA (diploma), Social Stories, basic Makaton and sign language, Level 3 CPD Autism course and have liaised with Educational Psychologists, Art therapists and Occupational Therapists for the needs of my students. My best quality as an Autism Tutor is my relationship building skills that are committed to the unique personality of my learners. I have experience of using many different strategies and can produce precise behaviour and learning plans to support targeted skills and needs. I have worked in the past with challenging behaviour and non verbal pupils and I could consider in person sessions for very specific needs if my clients have completed a range of online interventions. A Sixth Form student of mine has completed successfully his work experience at the end of our academic year together and a year 7 student won the Jack Petchey award with my support as a Tutor.

Previous skills and experience for ADD/ADHD: I have experience of creating and delivering education and communications resources to enable movement in lessons, and online lessons can adhere to that too. I can create with my students or on my own 3-D objects as supporting education tools and board games to make sure students keep their hands and legs occupied creatively while resources and learning is happening. I have more than once created settings and resources for reading, singing and writing while standing and/or in movement. I am confident to help develop the attention span of students with very precise plans and records with additional guidance on keeping up the progress at home and in school. I am very creative and if you`re up for a challenge you`ll get to see how learning can be done on the go!

Previous skills and experience for language needs (Sp&L, EAL/ ESL): I can slow down and use small steps with lots of praise for students with Sp&L needs. I have many times used pictures to enhance vocabulary, which works in a very basic level, and other times I had the students give their own explanations while developing their research skills online. Building vocabulary can be next to building sentences, paragraphs or stories and I have experience in this using visual and engaging material. I love teaching how we use dictionaries of all kinds and my students can become specialists in writing, reciting and reading poems, letters and stories. With a confidence building focus everyone is included and everyone can achieve - I have been awarded for story writing in the past and I`d love to support a child or young person do the same if that`s what they dream for themselves.

Previous skills and experience for other SEN (Dyspraxia, SEMH, SEBD, HI, Challenging behaviour etc): I have experience with students of almost all SEN. I have worked for GCSE preparation, social and communication skills, language development, Literacy across the curriculum, English comprehension, homework support, behaviour support, target setting, confidence building, mentoring, vocational training, Prince`s Trust qualifications, interview and social interaction support through role play etc. My main strategy is to provide engaging content with a positive approach for small step praise. Confidence building and positive mind-set is the number one lesson one will learn with me in practical terms and inclusive philosophy. I feel confident to support children make comparisons through reading and develop their writing skills across all Ficton/Non-Fiction styles. Last, I have drafted reports related to Annual Reviews of my key students based on their EHCPs and know how to work towards EHCP targets.

Other skills and experience: I have strong public speaking and presentation skills because I have presented my artistic work and gave personal interviews to newspapers, magazines, TV shows and radio programmes. I have also pitched my ideas to connect with investors, charity representatives and board directors of museums or other institutions. I have many times in the past been part of professional productions and have received a commendation award for my work.

5/5 Rating

Katerina has been tutoring our two 6 year old girls in Greek for the past 3 months or so. She is innovative and creative in her approach to teaching and excellent at maintaining their interest and keeping them engaged whilst also maintaining control of the lesson. Both my husband and I are very impressed and pleased with their progress.
