Information about Lorna
Hello! I am a twenty-five year old Mancunian with a wide and varied background in teaching and tutoring. My specialisms are primarily in the humanities, particularly English Language/Literature, history, politics and philosophy, although I have also taught GCSE and A-Level Biology in the past.
I graduated from St Catharine`s College, the University of Cambridge with a double first honours English Literature BA in 2012. After a year working in publishing, I was accepted onto the JET (Japanese English Teachers) Program and I was fortunate enough to spent two years formally teaching in Nishinomiya, Japan. I returned to the UK in September 2015 and am currently waiting to being a MA/PHD programme in the UK.
I enjoy teaching immensely and hope to encourage intellectual curiosity and enthusiasm in my students in a rigorous but non-judgemental environment. I have practical experience teaching students with dyslexia and other learning disabilities, as well as mainstream students. My previous students have ranged from ten years old to seventy and with a wide range of abilities.
Availability: Currently I am available during the day (until September 2016 when I may have to switch to evenings) and the majority of weekends. I can travel (within reason!) or teach at home.
Willing to travel: 4 miles

- Taught English as a foreign language in Naruo Senior High school, Japan, between 2013-15 (students aged fifteen to eighteen years old)
- Coached debating as part of the Cambridge University debate team and later whilst at Naruo Highschool the students reached the Hyogo Prefecture regional finals
