I studied English and French at Leeds University, and have a Masters degree in Education and Linguistics from The Open University. Whilst originally from the north-east, my teaching career has been mainly in Leicestershire, with six very interesting years spent working overseas in Bahrain. An avid reader myself, I have always loved talking about books, and my aim is to encourage my students to share this enthusiasm and to appreciate not only how useful and important language skills are in every aspect of life, but also how much fun they can offer too. I am a kind and patient teacher, keen to make literary texts accessible and enable my students to fulfil their potential.

Experience: I have over 34 years’ experience of teaching English in Further Education, Sixth Form colleges and secondary schools in both the state and private sectors, most recently at Oakham School I have taught all year groups from 11 to 18, although the bulk of my experience has been in GCSE, A Level and IB. fifteen years ago, and have loved the wide-ranging curriculum, and the chance to teach world literature texts. I have taught a range of GCSE and A Level courses in both English Language and Literature, and HL and SL English courses for the IB. I am currently an Examiner for the [contact detail removed] and have previously examined for AQA A Level.
