Information about Stuart
I`m a tutor who also works as a professional economist. I`ve tutored a student to achieve their A Level goals, raising their predicted grade, and inspiring them to choose economics at university. I`m very familiar with A Level and IB syllabuses. I have supported students with EPQs on international and economic themes. I love economics and have great experience of applying micro and macro on real world issues.
1990-1991 Taught Economics as gap year student at Aditi School, Bangalore, India
1991-1994 BA Economics (2:1), Kings College, Cambridge
1996 Passed Government Economic Service (GES) assessment
1996-2004 GES Economist
2004-2006 Manager/Economist, PricewaterhouseCoopers, including living in Jordan
2006-2026 GES Economist
As a member of the Government Economic Service, I use economics routinely. This includes all parts of the A Level/IB syllabuses including: microeconomics (firms and competition, welfare economics), macroeconomics (monetary and fiscal policy), supply-side policies for economic growth, trade policy and economics of developing countries.
My work has involved making great use of economics to shape policies and to make spending decisions. I have spent a number of years working in countries in Africa and South Asia, discussing economic policy with governments, talking to businesses about the opportunities and obstacles for investment in different markets.

I really love economics! Whether its microeconomic and macroeconomic theory, economic research or application of economic evidence to real policy choices, I think it`s such an awesome and useful subject. It gives you a great set of tools to understand the world through, and - frankly - have a lot to say that is really well grounded in real content.
I have a passion for helping others discover their own enthusiasm for economics, on the way to achieving their academic, career or other goals.
Teaching has been an everyday part of my work in the civil service. Ive taught economic principles to work colleagues to help them with public policy and spending decisions.
Ive organised group role play sessions for economics scenarios. These included mock Monetary Policy Committee meetings, and negotiations between IMF and country governments.
My job has involved recruiting and mentoring many excellent young economists within the organisation, putting them through interview and assessment processes, then helping them apply their economist skills on the job.
I studied A Level economics (1998-1990) along with English Literature and Latin an odd combination, but they were all topics I enjoyed.
For my degree (1991-1994), I studied Economics at Kings College, University of Cambridge, home 80 years previously to John Maynard Keynes. At Cambridge, I attended lecture courses given by economist legends such as Partha Dasgupta, Bob Rowthorne and Ha-Joon Chang. In my final year, I wrote a dissertation on Korea and Taiwan`s growth and industrialisation success stories.
