Information about Justin
Hi, my name is Justin and I am a qualified maths teacher based in the Kidsgrove area of Stoke on Trent. Born and raised in Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire, I have lived in Stoke for almost 2 years now.
I have three daughters, a step-son and step-daughter. Living with my fiancé, we are currently in the process of planning our wedding in May of 2026 and we enjoy spending time together as a family, going on days out to places like Alton Towers and Warwick Castle.
I am a huge fan of Liverpool FC and have a share of a season ticket which allows to me to attend, usually, around 4 or 5 games per season. I also enjoy other sports such as basketball, golf and tennis, which I played at county level as a child.
In terms of my teaching style, I am very much of the belief that we need to enjoy studying something in order to get the most out of it. That is why I aim to get as much engagement out of my students as possible through energetic and passionate teaching of the subject I love!
Willing to travel: 10 miles
Experience: I have 6 years of experience teaching secondary school mathematics in a number of academies across England. I currently teach maths in a Stoke on Trent secondary academy and sit on the senior leadership team as the Director of Behaviour and Standards.
I began my teaching career in 2018 at the age of 32 at Outwood Academy Brumby in Scunthorpe where I quickly took on the role of Second in department for maths. I then moved to Outwood Academy Foxhills where I took on the role of Assistant Principal. There, I oversaw the design of the whole school curriculum development plan and led the careers information advice and guidance (CEIAG) provision for the academy and was part of the leadership team that saw the academy awarded an `Outstanding` grading by Ofsted in December 2022.
I moved to Stoke on Trent in May 2023 and took up the position of Director of Behaviour and Standards for Key Stage 4 at Ormiston Horizon Academy in September of the same year. There, I sit on the seniour leadership team and my duties include overseeing the day to day interventions and mentorship of students and I also teach 15 hours of maths each week to students in years 7 to 11.
Prior to my teaching career I was a self employed barber for 15 years in Scunthorpe. I re-educated myself at the age of 26, gaining GCSE`s, A Levels and a First Class honours degree in Education Studies and Mathematics. I trained to teach through Bishop Grosseteste University and gained my PGCE in 2018. I also carried out tutoring to students in years 5 and 6 at Newington Academy and to secondary school students at Kingswood Academy, both in Kingston-upon-Hull.
