Information about Chris
Hi I`m Chris, I am a Pure Mathematics graduate from the University of Sussex with a passion for maths, music and languages. I have a calm and approachable personality and I`m very enthusiastic about learning and passing on my knowledge to others. When I`m not tutoring i spend lots of time working on musical projects in a local music studio and performing gigs with a band at venues across the UK.
I first developed a passion for teaching working with the Brighton Science Festival in 2012 where I would regularly assist in hands on science workshops over half term. In 2014 and 2015 I ran workshops for children aged 4-12 planning what would be taught at each station in the room whilst running my own station at the same time. I have continued to work on and off with the festival up to the present day, most recently working teaching science at the Elderflower Fields Festival.
When I`m not teaching, I work as a musician at a local music studio in Brighton where I do a lot of session recording, songwriting and mixing/producing. I also use this space as a base for gigs with my band across the country. I sing and can play guitar, accordion, piano, bass, ukulele, mandolin and drums. I`m inspired by a wide range of music, from classic Brit-pop and rock artists, to jazz and blues, to folk music from around the world. This mix of influences and instrumentation has helped me develop into a well rounded musician with a strong sense of musicianship and an excellent understanding of each instrument`s place within a band or a particular song.
Availability: I am available for lessons on Wednesdays and Thursdays midday-9pm and until 7pm on Fridays. Other arrangements are possible. Please get in touch to discuss out of hours lessons.
Willing to travel: 5 miles
Experience: Throughout my studies I have spent lots of time helping my peers and students in younger years and have learnt to adapt my teaching style according to their learning style, ability and needs.
While I specialise in teaching GCSE and A Level students, i also teach adults. This mix of students has developed lmy ability to teach in a way that student led with the best techniques for them to learn as individuals.
I have spent the last two years also tutoring one on one guitar lessons both in person and online which has allowed my experience in teaching to expand beyond classroom subjects and into hands on activities.
