Information about Stephen
A student came to me in February who was struggling with Business Studies and got a D for her AS Level Last year. After tutoring her in the holidays she has just achieved a B overall.
I am married with two children age 6 and 8. I play guitar, grow vegetables and support Ipswich Town FC. I also enjoy travel photography and cooking, especially South-East Asian and Indian food.
Availability: Monday day, Wednesday and Thursday evenings. Possibly more upon request.
Willing to travel: 5 miles
Experience: I have been a teacher for 17 years. My main subjects are Computer Science, Business Studies and Economics. and I can also teach Mathematics and KS2 level. I have taught in several schools, mostly in middle management posts, and was Head of the IT Department in a Clacton school for seven years. I currently teach Computer Science and Business as well as tutoring.
My approach to tutoring is student-led. My recent experience includes tutoring a Colchester Sixth Form student for A Level Economics and KS2 tutoring for Nigerian children unable to return to Nigeria during the Ebola crisis. I currently also tutor for children with behavioural difficulties and special educational needs, who are not in mainstream education. These situations are all very different. For Economics A Level we concentrated on commonly faced exam style questions for more general tutoring we have concentrated on English and Maths with lots of task variety. I am patient, friendly and I also recognise that every child is different. I use humour, where appropriate, and I am also sensitive to individual children`s own learning styles.
