Information about Nerys
Hi,
I`m a qualified PGCE Biology teacher and examiner for Biology A Level and GCSE. I have experience with the following exam boards: WJEC/Eduqas, Edexcel, AQA, OCR and CIE (Cambridge International) and Edexcel International.
I have been an examiner for 10 years for Cambridge International Assessment, OCR and Pearson Edexcel for GCSE /A level Biology and Marine Science A level. I consult and assist in exam paper and mark scheme construction and am now beginning to write questions.
I have a lot of experience of International A levels so if you are outside the UK please get in touch. I teach students from all over the world including Qatar, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Malaysia, USA, Europe and the African continent etc. I can make special arrangements for extreme time zone differences e.g. New Zealand.
Home schooling students are very welcome - maybe you need to just check in with a tutor now and again or would like a few sessions for a difficult part of the course - feel free to get in touch.
2024 exam cycle I have had several students obtain A/A* in Biology A level with many going onto study at top universities e.g. Bristol University for VetMed.
Biology is a tough subject and I believe in making this fully accessible for my students. Achieving highly in Biology requires a combination of hard work by the student, excellent knowledge and strong exam technique. Being an examiner I believe in providing the best exam training needed to help you reach the best possible grade!
As a tutor I will be here to aid your learning e.g. clarify and go over things misunderstood/missed in class and to help you practice past paper questions. We can focus on application questions which are particularly challenging.
I also have experience in EPQ, UCAS statements and other science courses.
For EPQ`s I can review projects, provide feedback to help improve. Please note I am not able to act as an official supervisor - you will need to be enrolled with an institution to undertake the EPQ qualification
I am currently only providing online sessions, which are all completed through zoom. These are very much like an in person session, if not better. I use powerpoints, animations and an online white board to teach. The benefit of this is that I am able to reach students further afield, so please feel free to contact me if you are outside of my area or the UK.
Bookings - If you are interested in booking with me please contact me through the tutor hunt messaging system. Please inform me of the level (e.g. GCSE, A Level) and exam board you/your child is studying with and I will reply asap. Bookings are made on a recurring weekly basis but these can be altered by me or you.
First session: Includes several assessments for me to gauge ability, a chat about current status in Biology and aims/goals of the tuition sessions.
I look forward to hearing from you!
Availability: Missed Sessions and Cancellations
Missed sessions with less than 24 hours notice will be charged for.
Tutor hunt gives the option of weekly or fortnightly schedules. If you would like one off sessions then you can select this upon registration.
Sessions can be edited/altered on your tutor hunt account at any time up to 24 hours before the session.
Thank you for your help with this.

Nerys tutored my son in year 11 for GCSE Biology, she is an amazing tutor who planned her lessons exceptionally well. My son found her incredibly helpful in understanding topics he was struggling with at school. He found the following techniques very useful: - detailed analysis of mark schemes - clear and concise explanations - prompting him to mark exemplar answers and helping him to understand how examiners think He went from a grade 6 in Jan mocks to Grade 9!! Thank you Nerys
