I`m a Cambridge engineering graduate and qualified maths teacher (PGCE with QTS, Distinction in Mathematics with SEND), based in north Leeds. I`ve tutored one-to-one for over ten years, from GCSE through to postgraduate level.

My specialism is SEND. I trained on a specialist SEND route and my school placement was in a setting for pupils with severe and complex needs, including autism, ADHD, dyslexia and SEMH. That training shapes how I teach everyone: I work out where understanding has actually broken down, rather than re-teaching what the student already knows. Many of my students arrive having decided they`re "bad at maths" — that belief is usually the real barrier, and it`s almost always wrong.

I tutor Maths and Sciences to A-Level, plus university-level engineering and finance, and Oxbridge admissions preparation including STEP, MAT and PAT. I hold an Enhanced DBS and am available in person across Leeds and Yorkshire, and online nationwide.

Experience: I hold a PGCE with QTS (Distinction) in Mathematics with SEND from the University of Leeds, and a First-Class BA and MEng in Engineering from the University of Cambridge. I have taught and tutored for over ten years.

School-based teaching

My specialist SEND placement was at East SILC Roger Cannon School in Leeds, a setting for pupils with severe and complex needs. I taught KS3 and KS4 mathematics across the full attainment range, including pupils with autism, SEMH, MLD and SLCN, and acted as form tutor to a KS4 pastoral group. I managed acute dysregulation through de-escalation and co-regulation, designed accessible low-anxiety assessment materials, and contributed to EHCP evidence and review processes.

I also taught at Guiseley School, a mainstream secondary, covering KS3 and KS4 mathematics including a Year 8 group with significant SEND and engagement needs, and led Oxbridge entrance exam support for Year 13 students.

Private tutoring

I have run my own tutoring practice since 2014 and have taught approximately 2,500 hours one-to-one. My work covers Mathematics from KS3 through to postgraduate level, including GCSE, A-Level, Further Maths, IB and university-level engineering and finance; Physics and Chemistry to A-Level; and Oxbridge admissions preparation including ESAT, PAT, STEP, TMUA and MAT, along with mock interviews and personal statements.

I work with a small number of families at a time over several years rather than taking on large volumes of students for single exam seasons. Outcomes include students achieving First-Class degrees, a 4.7 GPA Master`s, and a student with undiagnosed MLD whom I supported through an Electrical Engineering degree and on to a Master`s.

SEND specialism

My training is SEND-specialist rather than mainstream with SEND as an add-on. I work across autism, ADHD, dyslexia, SEMH, MLD and SLCN, and my approach is to identify where understanding has actually broken down — working memory, processing speed, reading fluency, organisation or confidence — rather than applying a single method. I provide literacy intervention and academic writing support for students with specific learning difficulties.
