Information about Duncan

I am an outgoing, patient, and enthusiastic Maths graduate from the University of Oxford, with several years of experience tutoring alongside my studies. Currently on a gap year post-graduation, I am aiming to tutor full time. I offer tutoring in Maths up to first year undergraduate level as well as in Physics and Chemistry up to A level/Pre-U. I also offer general advice for things like university application and am able to tutor both online and in person.

I love tutoring for two reasons. Firstly, I`m able to make a real difference to the lives of young people, not only helping them to achieve their maximum potential at school and university, but also hopefully fostering in them a greater interest in their chosen subject. In addition to this, I genuinely love the subjects I teach - particularly my degree subject, Maths - which makes the lessons even more enjoyable, both for me and, hopefully, my pupils too!

Highlights from my tutoring whilst at school and university have included a pupil who received an academic scholarship to a leading private school and another who received a grade 8 in his GCSE maths (which was well above his expectations). I have also tutored up to IB and Oxbridge interview level, as well as Key Stage 3 (Year 7).

My teaching style could be summed up as interactive, patient and engaging. I try to ensure I teach at just the right tempo for a student, whatever their level, and make sure I always keep them on their toes. If someone says they understand something, I won`t always take them at their word - they better be ready to prove it! I also like to go through things that might be a little off syllabus, but are genuinely interesting, or show how maths, physics and chemistry can be used in the real world. This can help show pupils just how fascinating and useful these subjects are and keep them engaged with the on-syllabus content.

Willing to travel: 10 miles

Experience: I have taught around my studies in my last two years of school and first two years of university and am now tutoring more regularly during my gap year. Some highlights from my time tutoring include
• An 11+ pupil who gained entry to several leading independent and grammar schools, including an academic scholarship to Hampton School.
• A GCSE maths pupil who attained a grade 8 in his GCSE, well above his expectations.
• An Oxbridge Interview Crash Course for students in Shanghai.
• Students at Hampton Academy, SW London – tutored GCSE maths to pupils weekly on a voluntary basis
• I also have experience teaching IB and Key Stage 3 (Year 7)
