Information about Harriet

A University of Cambridge Veterinary Medicine Graduate, with four years experience teaching A level Biology, specialising in the AQA specification.

Qualifying as a veterinary surgeon, my desire to educate and help young people achieve their full potential drove me to pursue a career in teaching. I have since completed a PGCE at the University of Chester and worked as a Teacher of Biology in two contrasting sixth form colleges.

I currently teach in an "Outstanding Sixth Form College" where my time is split evenly across teaching Year 12 and Year 13 A level Biology. In my most recent post I have refined my teaching and resources to be highly exam specific. This has been achieved by scrutinizing previous A level papers, mark schemes and examiners reports and updating my resources accordingly. I share with my students the common errors that are made on the exam so that they are aware not to make them. I also teach my students how to use this past exam material to effectively improve their exam technique.

An empathetic and kind teacher, I believe that students thrive in an environment where they feel comfortable to make mistakes and ask questions. I create this environment within my lessons by adopting a positive and motivating approach to learners. I encourage my students to regularly reflect on their progress in order to take ownership of their learning and for them to better understand how they can bridge the gap between where they are now and where they want to be.

I would highly recommend Harriet as a tutor to anyone needing help or support with A-Level Biology. She`s very friendly and knowledgeable and has given me a much deeper understanding in the more challenging topics. This great help, combined with Harriet perfecting my exam technique, means I now feel confident and ready for the Summer exams!

My daughter enjoys her A level biology lessons with Harriet. She is punctual, prepared and helps clear her doubts in complicated areas of syllabus. She has sent relevant premier point presentations and documents after the class as follow up revision. Overall very satisfied.

Ms Harriet has helped my daughter for a few months. She has been very reliable and increased my daughters confidence in biology. My daughter has already improved a grade from Christmas A level mocks to Easter A level mocks. I would highly recommend this tutor. 👍;
