I recently finished my PhD in Theoretical Physics at Imperial College London, where I carried out research in String Theory, an exciting subject at the forefront of particle physics. I have hundreds of hours of experience tutoring physics and maths.
My style as a tutor is to encourage an intuitive understanding of the subject through clear explanations and to build the confidence of students, equipping them with both the technical skills and the self-belief required to achieve their goals.
I love tutoring and I care very deeply about my tutees. I have a talent for explaining things, as demonstrated by the various prizes I have won for academic talks about my work. Of course, as a scientist, I have true passion and enthusiasm for maths and physics, which lets me really bring out how fun, exciting and profound these subjects are. Anyone can gain a deep understanding of such technical subjects, as long as they are given the right guidance and lucid explanations that start from the basics. This deeper understanding is a great thing in its own right, and ultimately leads to exam success.
For physics and maths I think it`s important to really understand the content intuitively and see the bigger picture, rather than just following recipes to get the answers, so I always try to get this across. Of course I also go into the finer details of specific problems, like the nitty-gritty of the algebra required in answering a particular question, building up my students` technical and analytical skills.
I am flexible as to how sessions are spent, depending on the needs of the tutee. My experience tutoring has given me an appreciation for the importance of tailoring my lessons to suit each individual`s needs and to work with them on strategies to reach their goals.
Availability: I`m currently available on any working day as I`m working as a tutor full-time. I`m also willing to work on weekends occasionally.
Willing to travel: 4 miles
Experience: I have experience tutoring (A-Level and GCSE maths, A-Level physics) and teaching undergraduates at Imperial. I`m very familiar with most undergraduate Physics topics, especially those that are more theoretical/mathematical. I know the A-Level physics and maths courses very well and will give students a really strong and intuitive grasp of these subjects.

Mia makes lessons so interesting by detailing the origins of equations and methods and outlining where they come from and why they make sense. She has an excellent understanding of Maths and Physics and is clearly very passionate about the subjects. Lessons were very enjoyable.

Mia taught both my son and my daughter as they worked towards GCSE and A levels in Maths and Physics. Her help was without doubt a factor in them achieving the grades they needed to obtain their University places. She struck just the right approach with them and they both responded well to her tutoring. She is extremely knowledgeable and was able to enthuse both of them. I wouldn`t have any hesitation in recommending her.

I wanted someone to act as a supervisor and teach me how to think like a theoretical physicist and that`s exactly what i got from Mia, she found a way to help me visualise alot of concepts in GR and helped me gain confidence in myself, she was very friendly and i see her now as a friend and not just as a tutor! she advised me on many different things and i will forever be grateful to her, i recommend Mia to anyone who needs a tutor! Thank you Mia! x

Mia has been tutoring our daughter in preparing for maths GCSE. Our daughter is not very confident in maths but is delighted to find that she understands things when Mia explains them that she had struggled to understand previously. Mia is clear and patient in her tutoring and reliable and flexible. Recommended.

I would highly recommend Mia to anyone looking for a tutor that really understands the subject. She is very helpful and an excellent explainer: conveying concepts that I found challenging in ways that are easily accessible.

Mia provided exceptional tutoring sessions for two of our American study abroad students studying Physics at Queen Mary. The students were quite out of their depth and Mia did an excellent job of tapping into their previous knowledge to guide the sessions. Mia brought the students quickly up to speed and translated the otherwise unfamiliar and incomprehensible coursework, making it relatable for both students. Without Mia`s tutoring both students faced poor performance and low marks. With Mia`s guidance both students performed very well and experienced less stress during their time abroad. I cannot endorse Mia strongly enough and would encourage anyone needing Physics or Mathematics tutoring to proceed with confidence.

Mia provided tutorial support for our daughter leading up to her AS exams in 2015. Mia was able to provide the kind of conceptual explanations and deeper understanding which my daughter was not able to pick up in class (a normal state sixth form)and it made a real difference. We haven`t had the AS results yet, but there was a marked improvement in my daughter`s test scores and overall confidence in the weeks leading up, so much so that she is now considering keeping Physics on to A level (having previously planned to drop it). I would recommend Mia as somebody who offers a complement rather than substitute for school work, helping the student to grasp the underlying concepts and providing a sounding board to sort out any difficulties. On a personal level, Mia is quiet, thoughtful and sensitive to the student`s needs - in our case she worked more like a consultant than a teacher which is precisely what my daughter wanted. I would particularly recommend her for female students - and may well be using her again ourselves for Physics A-level!
