Information about Connie
*** Friday 4 and 5pm available. Daytime sessions available for home-schooling and A level students ***
I am a fully qualified (PGCE and QTS) science teacher with years of experience working in London schools. I have also previously worked as a GCSE examiner.
I teach biology, chemistry and physics to GCSE and teach biology to A-level. I have experience working with all GCSE and A level exam boards.
I teach all my lessons online, with lessons prepared specifically for each individual student.
The best way to build confidence and increase grades is to help students attain marks in assessments. I focus a lot on exam technique, working on practice questions with students to observe trends in the questions asked and mark schemes. Working in this way means students understand how examiners expect them to answer certain questions so that they dont have to guess in the exam.
I also focus on building logical and problem-solving skills in students, so that students are able to solve any problem that they encounter in science and outside of the science curriculum. I also ensure to work on maths skills, as these make up a large part of physics exams but are also needed in biology and chemistry.
I recently helped a student go from a 5 to a 9 in their GCSE science assessments in just 8 tutoring sessions.
* Personal statements * I have been working as a freelance editor and coach for personal statement and CV writing for over 6 years. I have helped students secure interviews at a number of prestigious universities across the UK, including UCL, LSE, and Oxford University. I also do coaching for interviews, including for biology related Oxbridge interviews.
* Extended Project Qualification * I struggled to write essays as a student because I didn`t have the correct guidance. I had one tutoring session which focused on essay writing for A level politics which took my grade from a D to an A*. Following this session, I never received below a first class in any essay I wrote at university. I am now looking to do the same for other students, by helping them understand how to write an outstanding essay, to help them achieve a good grade on the EPQ but also to help them at university and beyond.
Availability: I am available Monday to Friday in the daytime, afternoons, and in the evenings. I am available all day during the school holidays.
I teach adhoc weekend lessons, especially in the lead up to exams.
Willing to travel: 50 miles
Experience: I have been a teacher in London for a number of years, teaching biology, chemistry and physics to GCSE level and biology to A-level. I have a PGCE in secondary science teaching.
Prior to becoming a science teacher, I gained my TEFL qualification and have taught English to students from 4 years of age to adults, both online and in person abroad.
I have now been working online for some time as a science and Spanish tutor.

Feedback For Connie (24)

My Year 12 son had a one hour lesson with Connie to help him to organise his thoughts and narrow down his EPQ question, as he was struggling to get started on his EPQ. He thoroughly enjoyed his lesson with Connie who is warm and friendly, and very encouraging. Connie is very good at explaining things and gave him useful resources and strategic approaches which have really helped him to narrow his focus and question. He is now clear in his mind where he is going with his EPQ so he can make a start on researching and writing the content.

Connie is providing welcome support and insight on key topics for Biology A-level. She is engaging and patient, and has been helpfully flexible on timing to work around school and other commitments. All round, very grateful and appreciative of her effort and impact.

Hi Connie has been my sons science teacher for a few months and already he has greatly improved in science which is amazing as it was not at all one of his strong suits in the beginning, I highly recommend her, she is a great teacher and your child could learn a lot from her even if its in a short amount of time.
