Information about Bernard

I am a widower with a 16 year old daughter, my wife died totally unexpectedly and out of the blue in November 2016. I live in Leeds , where I was born and educated. As my parents were Irish , I am second generation Irish and in the 1980`s - early 2000`s played a role in many mainstream Irish community activities both locally and nationally. I was secretary to the organising committee for the first Leeds St Patrick`s Day Parade and in the 1980`s was on the committee of The Federation of Irish Societies. The latter long recognised by the Irish government, its agencies and departments as the representative body of the Irish community in Britain. My involvement with the Irish community was in a voluntary capacity. In 2015 I became chair of the board of West Leeds & Bramley Credit union. I served as a Foundation Governor of a Catholic Primary School in Leeds between 1986 - 2013 , several of those years being chair of governors. I like walking and also try to keep fit by following a regime with a personal trainer once a week. Interests are current affairs , politics and reading. In relation to the latter it is predominantly factual history.

Availability: I am fairly flexible in terms of evenings and am willing to do weekends. Until May - June Friday is taken , as I tutor a client in Wakefield on that evening. They are in year 11 , so will be taking their exams in History and Geography this summer. In terms of time availability , ideally this should be after 6.00 in the evening , but again this is not set in stone and is flexible.

Willing to travel: 12 miles

Experience: I began teaching full time in September 1980 in Wolverhampton , as a Geography specialist trained teacher. In 1983 I sought and obtained a full time post in Harrogate , where I remained until taking voluntary early retirement in January 2013. I have taught CSE and `O` level Geography and History. With the introduction of the National Curriculum I taught, continuously, key stage 3 and 4 History and Geography. I undertook supply teaching between 2013 - 2016 and have privately tutored year 10 and 11 clients in preparation for GCSE Geography and History. Exam boards concerned being AQA, OCR and The Cambridge Board.
