I am an outstanding full-time professional English tutor, and an examiner for a well known exam board. This allows me a unique insight into exactly how marks are awarded in exams, and means students get the grades they deserve.

On average, my students increase their results by at least two grades.

It may be the case that they did not fully understood a topic when it is first introduced and as a result subsequent lessons do not make sense. Or it may be the case that they have failed to connect with a subject and had decided that they ‘don’t like English’ or ‘can’t do’ English.

Each child has an individual preferred learning style. In large classes of students it is impossible for a teacher to teach to every student’s preferred learning style.

During private tuition one of the first assessments we make it to identify your child’s preferred learning style; I then tailor each lesson, and the learning resources used, to suit that style. This ensures maximum student engagement in the lesson and increases the efficiency of our time together.

I take a holistic approach to teaching and learning and will nurture a growth mindset in your child, which will have a positive effect on their approach to learning in other subjects. My practice of developing growth mindsets in children is based on the work of Professor Carol Dweck.

I have multiple years experience teaching GCSE English in guildford as well as providing bespoke private English tuition from primary through to GCSE, A Level and undergraduate. I now work full time as a private English tutor and have an abundance of creative and innovative resources. Most importantly, I will provide detailed written feedback on what your child needs to do to make progress.

Private tuition is delivered in a designated learning area in my home where I have a wealth of learning resources. Students are often able to concentrate more fully away from the distractions of home. It is also possible for me to tutor a child in their own home, however, an additional travel fee may be charged.
