Information about Ross
Hi! I am a 22-year-old graduate entry medical student in the UK with a 1st class BSc Hons in Biomedical Science. Throughout my academic career, I have developed a strong passion for teaching and principles of learning! I strive to instill ambition and self-belief in students so they can achieve their potential; I believe any student who is engaged can achieve! I have taken many teaching opportunities alongside my studies and as such have delivered teaching in a wide variety of settings to a diverse range of individuals. I am a highly motivated, confident and reliable individual with the interpersonal skills to develop a genuine rapport with any potential student from any background.
Willing to travel: 8 miles
Experience: University of Leeds (Feb March 2020)
As a graduate entry medical student studying on an undergraduate course, I was given the opportunity to act as a teacher/facilitator for the GI strand of the body systems module. This role consisted of delivering teaching to approximately thirty pupils for 3-hour sessions on a weekly basis. I was able to deliver learning materials in a variety of ways and simplify abstract/complex topics, catering to multiple different learning styles and abilities in a classroom.
University of Salford; Biomedical Society (2016-2019)
I was a key contributor to the creation of the Biomedical Science Society with lead academic staff, facilitating the needs of students across the programme and encouraging engagement with science/medicine outside of the core curriculum. My teaching experience within the society included: medical school interview techniques, admission test assistance, presentation practice, and memory techniques. In addition, I delivered a presentation at the future health conference 2019 held at media city to various scientific experts and students exemplifying my ability to communicate effectively.
WAMS/Outreach work (November 2019)
WAMS is a society at the University of Leeds dedicated to widening access to medical schools from non-traditional backgrounds. WAMS runs a variety of outreach projects and I had the privilege of assisting in the delivery of a medical ethics workshop with Leeds-affiliated high schools. This opportunity gave me direct experience in teaching high school children, including how to engage, inspire, and motivate.
Guitar teaching (2017-2018)
For a period of time, I taught guitar lessons at my home free of charge, mostly to younger children, and thus gained invaluable experience in adapting a learning environment to suit a diverse range of individuals.
