Information about Lydia

I am a multi-skilled musician with experience dating back to my own early childhood.

From learning the recorder at age 4, I have come a long way towards cementing my relationship with music. I have grade 8 qualifications in Piano, Clarinet and singing, with transferable skills on the alto saxophone. I have made studying music my life’s work, and now have a BA in music from Bristol University, and an MA in Jazz Performance (Singing) from the world-renowned Guildhall school of Music and Drama in london.

I am now a professional jazz singer and perform with big bands, small jazz groups and much more, and regularly travel all over the UK to sing.

Having always been in multiple music groups, I therefore have diverse ensemble skills such as orchestral playing and conducting, choral singing, choral and orchestral arranging and composing, chamber music groups, musical theatre bands and musical theatre singing ensembles, playing and singing in jazz ensembles.

I believe learning music well comes from many disciplines, from developing technical instrumental skills to training the musical ear. I aim to address a fully rounded musical approach in my teaching- not just learning notes, but learning expression and delving deeper into the music theoretically and emotionally.

I am experienced in a wide rane of genres and am keen to accommodate the individual student’s musical taste so as to motivate them in a genre that they love. I always check with the students what they want to achieve and find the best way to do that, while reviewing goals as I go along.

I hope to be able to inspire people to follow music throughout their lives as it can become a hugely impactful skill and passion.

Availability: I have a lot of availability during weekdays. I teach mainly on Monday, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Between 4-6pm is the busiest time so if you are available earlier or later that would suit me best.
