Information about Jacob
I have tutored for six years and now work full-time as a tutor, with my own tuition company and over 3,500 hours experience. I grew up in Oxfordshire and read PPE at Exeter College, Oxford, and am now studying part-time for an MA in Religion at KCL.
My writing, on both education and current affairs, has been published in several international periodicals. I have worked with numerous high profile clients in the UK and internationally as a tutor and also as an education consultant and adviser. I have also carried out broader consulting work, having worked, for example, on the ethics of artificial intelligence with Heward-Mills, a legal firm specialising in data protection.
I believe that the most important virtue in a tutor is the ability to empathise with a student`s cognitive
position. When teaching, I guide a student through the mental steps needed to accomplish the goal
of the lesson.
Inspired by Oxfords tutorial system, I typically spend much of a lesson in dialogue with his student. I
break this up with exercises to embed and reinforce key points, but always ends the lesson with a
call to reflection on what the student has learned. As a believer in the humanistic value of education,
I emphasise that knowledge is open-ended and interconnected.
Outside of tutoring, I speak basic Arabic and am teaching myself the language. I follow current affairs closely and have written for several magazines on political and social issues. I enjoy travelling and have lived and worked in China, Uganda, and Morocco.

thank you for helping him achieve it``

``I would like to thank you for helping my son gain a prestigious scholarship at Harrow School. You
were engaging, sympathetic, and able to make the History, Philosophy, and Geography requirements
very clear to bring out my son`s full potential. This is a great achievement and we are very thankful
for your help in bringing it about!``
``Jacob has been a tremendous help with my IB studies. He can explain the content clearly and has a
detailed understanding of the syllabus and assessment requirements. He has also provided very
focused and helpful feedback on my internal assessment working, which has really helped me to
understand how to increase my marks``.
IB Economics and Philosophy student
``Jacob has a fantastic knowledge of the UK education system and his advice is invaluable. He was a
great help in securing offers for my son at [Winchester, Westminster, and St. Paul`s] and he
really understands the subtle things that distinguish a good candidate from a great one``.
