Information about Edward

I believe that it is possible to engage and edify every student, irrespective of ability level or personal challenges.
From my time tutoring History and English privately and at Crownhills Community College, I have found there a common challenges that students face. Firstly, many students, especially low-achievers, often simply lack confidence. By encouraging free-form conversations on the topic, they become more confident and engaged with complex material, which, when combined with a level of consistent positive reinforcement not possible in a classroom setting, empowers them to aspire and achieve. Other students, particularly higher-achieving students, typically are disinterested with topics due to they are forced to work at a classroom level, which doesn’t allow for proper attention and interaction from the teacher, hence the student can become distracted, especially if they learn at a faster pace to other students in the class.
Through my time working on the research team for some of New Walk Museum’s history exhibitions and other projects, I am able to provide supplementary knowledge to bring life to the subject matter and so ensure the student’s engagement and excitement. Almost all students struggle to some degree with revision, so by focusing on robust methods of essay structuring, exam practice, and exercises that utilise audio and visual cues to connect the student’s episodic memory (experience) with their semantic memory (general knowledge); they will no longer feel as overwhelmed by exams, will be able to answer challenging questions confidently, and revise efficiently - which are skills that can be easily adapted to any other subject. Many students are held back from achieving their potential by high levels of stress and anxiety surrounding schooling, but after practicing the methods and following the structures I provide in a relaxed environment without the pressures of school, they will become self-assured and prepared to tackle any academic challenge.
I am committed to one-to-one and small group teaching as a craft, and I specialise my methods and techniques to create bespoke sessions for my students to ensure we find the optimum learning style suited to their needs. I am constantly searching for new studies and scholarly works on education, psychology, and anything that I can find that I know will help me to engage my students. Every subject that is taught at school is interesting and captivating when presented the right way - and that’s what I aim to do.

Edward was very enthusiastic and he would have given my daughter confidence with studying A level History but unfortunately she only had two lessons as Edward had to cancel future lessons due to personal circumstances
