Information about Kate
I am currently a Head of Department at a large secondary school. I have been teaching English at KS3, KS4 and KS5 for eleven years and possess a first class honours degree in the subject. I am also familiar with the primary English curriculum and tests, as I have an eleven year old son who has just taken his SATS exams.
I have experience of working with the most able learners to secure the very best exam results and also of working with students who need support with the more basic aspects of the subject. I can cover all aspects of English, from basic literacy and comprehension to complex textual analysis - all you have to do is let me know what help you need and I can provide it.
I have a genuine love of English which I am keen to pass on to others - but I retain an awareness that for some, English skills do not come naturally and people can find the subject difficult and unenjoyable - I can help students overcome these difficulties and become confident and successful. I have now worked as a tutor for four years, and have seen around ten students through a variety of exams.
I conduct sessions at my home address, where I have a quiet area for students to work. Parents are welcome to stay and observe the session, or visit the local shops or village coffee shop while the session takes place. I will consider tutoring at a student`s home, if this is more suitable.
It is worth mentioning that my DBS is in my maiden name of Ankers - having been at the same school for over a decade there has been no need to update it. I am aware this document offers parents a degree of security around who they are employing but prospective tutees and their families are more than welcome to contact my school directly to confirm my identity. They are also welcome to ask my school for references, and I am also happy to provide details of previous students who do not mind being contacted for a reference.
Availability: I tend to offer sessions on a Saturday morning between the hours of 9.30am and 1.30pm and on weekday evenings.
