Information about Cristiana

I have a wide knowledge of the subject, as I have been studying Classics (ancient languages and literature in particular) since I was fourteen. I also have substantial experience in one-to-one and small groups tutoring, which has allowed me never to lose touch with teenagers and their constantly evolving world. What is more, I have been tutoring UK students for three years now, experience which has allowed me to become familiar with the UK school system.
I obtained my high school diploma, graded 100/100, in a high standard Liceo Classico (Grammar School), where I studied both Greek and Latin literature and language for five years (2006 to 2011).
In October 2011 I began my undergraduate studies in Classics at Università degli Studi di Macerata, whose Classics department is among the best in Italy. In March 2016 I obtained my Laurea Triennale (BA equivalent) with a thesis focused on Latin language which was graded 110 cum laude (honours). Then, in April 2017, I obtained my Laurea Magistrale (MA equivalent) with a thesis focused on Greek grammar and language which was graded 110 cum laude (honours).
I am currently a fourth year PhD candidate at [contact detail removed]. My dissertation, focused on aspects of beautiful death in Euripidean tragedy, has allowed me to widen my expertise to other areas, first and foremost anthropology, sociology, war studies and gender studies.
In September 2017 I obtained the so called “24 CFU”, which is the Italian equivalent of QTS. I successfully took several exams, mainly focused on pedagogy, childhood and teenage psychology, education, thanks to which I learned how to manage a classroom, not only in relation to curricular activities, but also from the point of view of the psychological and emotional wellbeing of my students.
From September to December 2019 I attended the SEDA Course at Roehampton University. This experience allowed me to learn and put into practice a series of ways to capture and maintain the attention of the class during my teaching. I also learned how to make my students feel included, regardless of their social background, ethnicity, religious belief or sexuality. What is more, I have become aware that teaching is a reciprocal activity, where teachers themselves can and need to learn from their students.
During the past year, I have been teaching Classics at an academic level. I taught Advanced Beginners Latin during last July`s UCL Summer School in Classics;; I have recently been hired by KCL, where I taught Introductory Texts - Prose in term 1, academic year 2021-2022, and I am currently teaching Advanced Greek Language;; I also work as a tutor at the [contact detail removed], where I am a fourth-year PhD student and teaching a Latin Language workshop.

Availability: I am typically available Monday to Saturday in the morning; Sunday in the evening.

Experience: I started my career as a tutor in August 2016, and since then I have been constantly improving my teaching style, mainly thanks to the feedback I have been receiving from my students. I usually avail of a combination of lecture-style teaching and visual support (PowerPoint slides and concept maps), to let my students easily and quickly obtain a full understanding of the subject. I also integrate my teaching with assessments to evaluate their level of knowledge, thing that turned out to be vital to obtain good - if not excellent - results.
