Information about Jake

I am an experienced, friendly, and supportive tutor.
I have a Physics Degree from Oxford University, and I have been tutoring for the past 9 years, working with young people as well as adults, from a range of abilities and backgrounds.

Availability: Mondays to Thursday - during the day and after school hours

Willing to travel: 2 miles

Experience: I am highly qualified: with a physics degree from Oxford University, A-grades in Maths, Further Maths, and Physics for A-level, and several years of experience tutoring.

I have experience tutoring:
* GCSE Maths and Sciences
* A level Maths and Physics
* Statistics for PhD Social Sciences
* Mathematics for undergraduate Economics
* Regular work in a Pupil Referral Unit supporting students who have been excluded from mainstream education
* I am also available to teach Maths for IB, SATs, and GRE

My approach is to follow the student’s lead – to support their way of thinking, building on their strengths, and allowing their confidence and skills to grow. I have an excellent track record of improving my students’ grades, as well as their confidence and interest in the subjects.

"Jake tutored my daughter in GCSE maths when she had lost her confidence and was worried she may not do well in her exam… [Annie] got an A in her GCSE maths and she is convinced the work she did with Jake helped her to achieve this"
Denise, Annie`s Mother

I am passionate and enthusiastic about teaching. On top of my experience as a tutor, I am also highly trained and experienced in Popular Education methods as a Trainer and Facilitator for community groups. I apply these methods and ideas of engaging, empowering, student-centred learning to my tutoring. I have found these skills have helped me to understand the learning process, and to build from the student`s current knowledge and ways of working, which makes my approach effective at building the student’s confidence as well as improving their grades.
