I am a professional double bass player, with extensive experience performing both orchestrally and in jazz combos. I also have done lots of function work and jazz gigs on bass guitar.
I have taught double bass to beginners through to more advanced students. I also have experience coaching small ensembles and teaching jazz theory/approaches to improvisation.
In my view, the best way to learn music, and an instrument, is for the teacher to be a guide, understanding the student`s perspective; using that perspective to delve deeper into the music making. To this, I offer choices as a student progresses; once we have worked through fundamental technique students have the option to persue jazz bass, theory (counterpoint/functional harmony or jazz) composition, and/or orchestral excerpts and ettiquette. Obviously these pathways would then be tailored even more to the individual student, and different pathways can be combined.
I understand both ABRSM and Trinity exam boards, in terms of requirements at each grade.

Orchestral: BBC Philharmonic Professional Experience Scheme, Manchester Camerata Professional Experience Scheme, Manchester Concert Orchestra, Britten-Shostakovich Festival Orchestra.
Other: Performed chamber music at the British Embassy in Moscow to the Ambassador and heads of industry; double bass/bass guitar in various jazz ensembles, including the Contemporary Arts Jazz Ensemble and Tom Barber Trio; bass guitar in MSC Big Band (function work); double bass in the SB ensemble (contemporary folk/crossover).
