I am an experienced teacher and tutor. I taught History to GCSE and A level for 18 years at a large secondary school and spent eight of those as head of department. I was also closely involved in training History teachers with Bristol University and was an Associate tutor of the University for a number of years

I have been tutoring privately since 2009 and with great success, with a steadily increasing number year on year. Last summer (2021) three of my students attained A* grades and five an A. Nobody was below a C.

On average, students who work with me improve by two grades

I have an informal and relaxed style and relate well to all my students.My approach is based on very strong subject expertise ( I am lucky that my work is also one of my hobbies! and thorough familiarity with the specifications of all the boards.

My main subject is History but can offer Ancient History, Politics and Philosophy /RE also.
