Information about Alice
Hi there! My name is Alice and I currently work for a curriculum programme. I am a qualified teacher who previously worked at a high-performing London secondary school as head of KS3 English. I am a dedicated and engaging tutor who brings a wealth of experience to what I find to be a truly rewarding role of private tutor.
Availability: Weekends and from 6pm weeknights.
Willing to travel: 10 miles
Experience: After completing my degree at Nottingham University, I trained to be an English teacher through
the Teach First Leadership Development programme in 2015. During this time, I worked as a secondary school English teacher at south London school. I worked with students from a range of
backgrounds and with a variation of complex learning needs. I was entrusted with the top two
Y11 sets who both achieved a positive progress score (exceeding their target grades) in both their
English Literature and English Language GCSE exams with over 10% achieving a grade 9. As
well as leading on the Key Stage 3 curriculum design in my school, I also led the provision for
our most able students. These wide-ranging experiences have put me in great stead to help
support students in a variety of ways - from aspiring to academic excellence to mentoring young
students.
Currently, I work as a School Development Lead for English Mastery where I design curriculum
resources for Key stage 2 and Key Stage 3. This role involves extensive research around teaching
and learning around the subject of English and means I have a thorough understanding of what
the 11+ requires and the skills and knowledge which need to be built up. This has been an
invaluable experience in my tutor work where I have been able to apply the pedagogical
principles to my own practice and tailor sessions to the nuanced needs of my individual students.
As a tutor, I am able to bring my experience of working with students from a diverse mix of
backgrounds to ensure I design and deliver bespoke sessions. I thoroughly enjoy the subject of
English and am passionate about sharing this joy with my students whilst also taking a goal orientated approach.
