I am a fully qualified Mathematics teacher with more than twenty years of one-to-one tutoring experience and, in that time, have worked with thousands of students at comprehensive, grammar, and home-schooled levels. I retired as Head of Mathematics at a Berkshire grammar school in 2019, and now tutor full-time.

I am also a current examiner and assessor for Edexcel (UK and International), AQA, OCR, OCR MEI and Cambridge International — at GCSE, IGCSE, A-Level and International A-Level. That examiner work means my students learn not only the content but how each board`s papers are actually marked, where candidates lose marks, and how to convert understanding into top grades in the room.

I have been teaching online since 2008 — long before it was the norm — and run a setup built specifically for serious online maths teaching: four monitors, an iPad with Apple Pencil, and a collaborative GoodNotes notebook that the student and I both write in during the lesson. Most of my students shift their entire workflow to GoodNotes after starting with me, turning their classwork, homework, and revision into a single searchable digital archive that stays with them through to their final exams. I work routinely with families across the UK, Europe and the Middle East; online tuition is a core part of my practice, not an afterthought, and the grades my online students achieve are consistent with those of my in-person students.

I tutor across KS3, GCSE, IGCSE, A-Level Mathematics and Further Mathematics, the IB Diploma, Edexcel International A-Level, and degree-level Mathematics. I am particularly experienced with Oxbridge and Russell Group preparation, Medical school applications, A* A-Level outcomes, demanding GCSE grade 8/9 work, and high-stakes GCSE recovery in compressed timeframes. Recent students include a young woman whose A grade firmed her place at Oxford — mechanics, formerly her weakest paper, became her strongest — and a Year 11 student lifted from a grade 4 to a grade 7 in weeks. The greatest reward in this work is the moment a student meets and then surpasses their potential, and goes on to the next stage of their academic life with real confidence in the subject.

Before teaching, I had a different career: ten years as a management trainee and then senior executive at LIC of India, and after my move to the UK in 1996, six years in IT as a Senior Analyst Programmer specialising in banking software, including work at HSBC Asset Management, from 1997 to 2003. I qualified as a teacher in 2004 through St Mary`s College, University of Surrey — a deliberate choice, and the best one I have made.

I hold an MSc in Mathematics, a PGCE, QTS, an Enhanced DBS, Professional Tutor membership of The Tutors` Association, and long-standing membership of British Mensa.

Tuition rates from 1st July 2026 — online or in person, same rate:

Y7 Maths — £50/hour
Y8 Maths — £55/hour
Y9 Maths (including IGCSE) — £60/hour
Y10 Maths (including IGCSE) — £65/hour
Y10 Maths with FM (combined rate, GCSE or IGCSE) — £70/hour
Y11 Maths (including IGCSE) — £70/hour
Y11 Maths with FM (combined rate, including IGCSE) — £75/hour
Y12 A-Level Maths (including IAL) — £80/hour
Y13 A-Level Maths (including IAL) — £85/hour
A-Level Maths with FM (combined rate, including IAL) — £100/hour
Degree-level Maths — £120/hour

Maths rates rise by £5 per year of secondary education. FM combined rates add a small premium where students take both subjects in one lesson. A-Level reflects the step change in difficulty from GCSE.

Year 11 and A-Level sessions recommended at 90 minutes; Y7–Y10 at 60 minutes. The 60-minute option remains available at exam level on request.
