Information about Michael
Hello, my name is Michael, and I am a tutor in the Godalming/Guildford area (specialising in GCSEs and A levels). I am currently 2 years into a PhD in Philosophy at the University of Exeter, researching autism, neurodiversity, and culture. I also have a Master`s degree in Cognitive Science (1st) from UCD and a Bachelor`s in Computer Science (2.1) from the University of Warwick. My A Levels were in Computing, Maths, and English Literature (AAA).
I think it is essential to establish a ground of mutual respect and empathy in all teaching and learning. I provide a personalised learning experience to each individual student, adapting my approach to their unique learning style, pace, and interests. Each lesson would take the form of an informal, relaxed conversation. I am happy to focus on specific topics, work through exam questions from past papers, and even mix-and-match subjects depending on the student`s needs and targets. I can also provide written feedback on students` work in essay-based subjects.
My driving motivation in teaching is to help inspire young people to be curious, think critically, and follow their passions. I am happy to make home visits within a nearby radius, or alternatively, can hold sessions online over Skype. If you are interested, please get in touch and I would be happy to discuss how I can help! :)
Availability: I am available on weekday afternoons/evenings.
Willing to travel: 10 miles
Experience: I have been working as a private tutor for 2.5 years, since autumn 2021, and have given 1-to-1 support to students in GCSE Computing, Maths, and English Language/Literature, on a 1-to-1 basis. I have also taught at university (facilitating seminars) and in secondary schools (running small group workshops on the theme of neurodiversity). I particularly enjoy working with neurodivergent students (including autistic, ADHD, etc.).
