Information about Oliver
I am currently a secondary school English teacher with a PhD from the University of Bristol. I recently moved to Yorkshire from London, where I worked for two years as an English teacher in a private school in Hampstead. I was awarded a Distinction for my Masters at University College London and a 1st-Class Degree for my English Literature BA at the University of Sussex.
I am a thoughtful, patient and meticulous teacher with a pragmatic and flexible approach to meeting the specific requirements of my students. I enjoy relating complex ideas using simple, engaging, everyday examples and conveying my abiding passion for literature, communications and media.
My teaching emphasises the improvement of extended written work, as well as nurturing students` confidence in and enjoyment of English. I believe that the main benefit of private tutoring is that it offers a quiet, focused supplement to the short, sharp activities and verbal discussions through which English is often taught in the classroom.
I offer expert teaching at GCSE, A-level and University-Level.
Availability: Weekends, weekdays during the summer holidays and weekday evenings after 5pm
Willing to travel: 5 miles
Experience: I teach English Literature and Language to all year groups within Key Stages 3-5.
In the past, I taught English to undergraduates and postgraduates as a lecturer and seminar tutor at the University of Bristol.
I am a native speaker of Portuguese, which I also taught at undergraduate level at the University of Bristol.
