Information about Leah
I have just completed my 1st year at the University of Cambridge studying Biological Natural Sciences. As part of my degree, I study Biology, Chemistry and Maths and so I am able to tutor all three subject areas from GCSE (or below) up to A Level standard.
I first teach students the concepts in a simple, logical manner, without getting lost in jargon (often the case in scientific subjects!), and often utilise diagrams to illustrate these ideas. Having the information in a visual form, I find, often helps students to understand things just that little bit better. I then move on to applying these concepts to unfamiliar situations in order to solidify the students understanding, before finally tackling exam style questions, providing the student with the confidence they need for the exam.
I tailor my lessons to the individual needs of each student, and also provide answers to specific questions that they pose. I actively encourage the student to think independently, which helps me to identify and correct misconceptions which furthers their understanding.
I have always enjoyed science, and I try to reflect this passion in my lessons to create a positive learning environment. I hope that I am not only able to help the student succeed but also show them that science and, particularly maths, are not as hard/bad as you might think!
Availability: I am available all days of the week at all times.
Willing to travel: 20 miles
Experience: Having been through A Levels myself I understand exactly what it takes to succeed, from having a firm grasp of the concepts, to being able to apply this knowledge to the unfamiliar situations often presented in exams.
Furthermore as part of my degree, I have regular small group teaching sessions (4 per week) and within these have to articulate my ideas and thoughts in a way that others can understand. It is with these communication skills that I am able to teach students scientific ideas in a way that is clear and concise for them.
