I have a First Class degree, an MA with Distinction and a PhD in English Literature. I have also studied History of Art in Italy and the Netherlands. My academic career has always involved a high level of inter-disciplinary and cross-subject learning, which I am enthusiastic about bringing to my tuition work. I am passionate both about my subjects and about sharing that enthusiasm with my students. Every student`s needs are unique, and I relish the challenge of adapting my tuition to suit that individual. My aim when working with students is to inspire and motivate them, and it is hugely rewarding to see this process take place.
In the rest of my life, I`m a keen gardener, walker, art-maker, dancer, music-listener and occasional geek. My passion for words extends into all areas of my life; I am also an editor, researcher and writer, and a complete and utter bookworm!

Availability: I am available most days and evenings to tutor from my home.

Willing to travel: Home Only

Experience: I have been a private tutor for more than ten years, working one on one and with small groups. I have taught all ages, from primary through to post-graduate. I have also worked in schools, most recently as Head of GCSE English at an OFSTED Outstanding school. However, my passion remains individual and small group tuition, which I feel is the best way to maximise my students` comprehension and - crucially - enjoyment of their subject.
I work with all ages and levels in a positive, friendly and supportive way, building confidence and understanding. Working individually with students allows me to focus effectively on their specific needs, such as developing essay skills or exam tehnique.
