Information about Penny
I am passionate about helping young people to achieve their potential. I want to share my enthusiasm for science, which I believe anyone can master given patience and the correct teaching methods. My lessons are engaging and relevant. I use examples from everyday life to explain difficult concepts and to enhance understanding. I plan lessons carefully beforehand and use a variety of teaching tools including powerpoint, videos, quizzes and worksheets. I have a PhD in Biochemistry and tutor biology at Primary, KS3, GCSE and A-Level.
Availability: Evenings and weekends
Willing to travel: Home Only
Experience: GCSE and A`Level biology, both grade A. I went on to study biochemistry at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, before completing a PhD in Biochemistry in the University College London. I now work as application scientist for Cytiva with a specialty in protein purification.
I really enjoy teaching, I love seeing the moment where the student understands and realizes that it is not hard if you have the right teacher helping and guiding.

Penny is currently tutoring my daughter Ella for her A Level Biology. Ella comes home from each session filled with enthusiasm and keen to describe everything she has learnt. Her grades are steadily increasing along with her confidence and knowledge. Not only does Penny know her subject well, her enthusiasm for her subject is contagious making her an incredible teacher, as well as one of the nicest people I’ve ever met.

Penny, Continues to provide my daughter with much needed confidence, as she studies towards her Biology A-Level. Penny has a flexible approach to learning, showing a great understanding of the subject and syllabus.

Penny has helped my son get an A in biology. She is an excellent teacher and knows her subject very well. My son was struggling with biology and was averaging between B and a C, but with Penny`s help he secured an A which ensured his admission into a Medical school.
