Information about Chris
I am a highly experienced, inspirational teacher of Chemistry who has remained totally committed to education throughout my career. I was one of the first teachers to be awarded Advanced Skills Teacher status back in 1998, recognising the quality and originality of my approach to teaching and learning. Patient and good-humoured, I can lighten the mood when the going gets tough and instil confidence in my students, encouraging and nurturing them to fulfil their potential. I am very quick to pick up on misconceptions and direct students towards a more holistic understanding of topics.
I am currently tutoring online. In the initial meeting I will introduce myself, get to know my student, check IT connectivity, identify needs and expectations, devise a learning plan and confirm that I am the right tutor for you.
Flexible in approach, I encourage my students to break the downward spiral caused by fear of failure, encouraging positivity and engagement whilst maintaining academic rigour and progress. For those at the upper end, I will push you outside of your comfort zone and encourage you to take academic risks; where getting something wrong becomes perceived as simply another step towards a more comprehensive understanding.
I have a vast array of top quality resources, most of which I have written, which I openly share with my tutees.

Experience: An enthusiastic and dedicated teacher of Chemistry with over 30 years experience, I have taught in both the state sector and in some of the UK`s top independent schools, including one that is regularly placed in the top 20 nationally for examination results. I have been a Head of Department for over 25 years, overseeing an increased uptake of students within my subject at A Level in every school where I have taught.
I have extensive experience of all three of the main examination boards, OCR, AQA & Edexcel, including IGCSE, and examined for two of them.
Preparing many students for University applications, including Oxbridge, I can proudly boast teaching four students who attained `Top Candidate` awards in their respective A Level examinations, as well as several achieving top awards in national competitions, such as the C3L6 Challenge and Chemistry Olympiad. Equally, my students who have found Chemistry a bit more challenging have consistently attained impressive and commendable results through the increased confidence and positivity that I instil within them.
