Information about Charles

An extremely self-motivated professional with varied skills, confident and effective but at the same time an approachable friendly person. I have over twelve years of teaching experience, specialising in Literacy, Maths, History, Science and Geography. I am now looking for new challenges, which will provide a new opportunity for me to use my existing skills and gain new ones, having the ability to work in a team or own my own initiative.

Availability: Monday to Thursday 4-630pm

Willing to travel: 5 miles

Experience: Vicente Cañada Blanch Spanish School (Independent school): Jan 2013- Present

I have been a tutor here for several years and adapted to the continuous changes and challenges throughout this period, where I have worked successfully under three headteachers. This position has given me experience of working with a variety of pupils from different backgrounds and academic levels.

It has allowed me to work throughout all of KS1 and KS2, allowing me to fortify my pedagogic skills. In the last few years I have shown my adaptability, especially during the pandemic, in the presence of new challenges and changes facing education in modern society.

Duties have included:

- Maintaining a balance between British and Spanish curriculum in specialist subjects.

-Using cross curricular activities to improve understanding and development of English and to help children engage in lessons.

-Providing cover for absent colleagues and in KS1 and KS2 and acclimatise quickly to topics the children are learning.

-Using virtual teaching methods to ensure children are not lacking in certain departments.

-Liaise with tutors, leads and parents constantly to ensure pupils are cared for and educational needs are being met.

-Improving reading and spelling, using several assessment strategies: National reading/spelling tests, one to one reading, weekly spelling tests, class reading and discussion of texts.

-Discussing and debating of current issues such as: Climate change, Brexit, technology and animal rights.

-Improving the ICT skills with pupils: producing presentations, visually pleasing work and a better understanding of online safety.

-Ensuring pupils are technologically competent with: Email, using Google Classroom and researching topics.

-Teaching Science using: ICT, models, construction tasks and physical games.

-Teaching foundation subjects such as: History, Geography (Physical and Human).

-Working with colleagues to ensure British Values and Safeguarding Standards are being met.

-Work individually/in small groups with EAL pupils to improve vocabulary, grammar and punctuation.

-Create a variety of workbooks to assist EAL pupils with story writing, using steady progression to slowly help them to work independently.

Alexander First School: Jan 2012- July 2012

This was my first full time post. It was quite a challenging, but fulfilling, experience, as I was taking over from the previous tutor, building upon what they had taught the students in the first term. This tested my ability to quickly assimilate into the working environment of the school and build a positive relationship with the students. Like my previous post, there were some challenging individuals, which gave me an opportunity to implement what I had taken from my last post and create a suitable learning environment which appealed to all ability groups.

Duties included:
Liaising with parents daily to support the learning and wellbeing of pupils.

Supporting children to help them achieve their full potential.

Improving assessment (Summative and formative)

Using my Drama background to make Literacy lessons more interactive and to encourage less confident
