In 2010, Simon commenced a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) at the University of Western Australia (UWA). During his LLB Simon was awarded university prizes in contract law and international commercial arbitration. Simon graduated in March 2013 with first class honours. Simon is interested in public and private law aspects of shipping. He completed his undergraduate thesis on maritime cargo arbitration. Simon then completed an MPhil in law having been awarded a Australian Postgraduate Award. His MPhil dissertation considered the role of maritime salvage law in preventing catastrophic marine pollution. In 2014, Simon commenced a PhD in law at the University of Cambridge, having been awarded a Cambridge Australia Poynton Scholarship. His PhD topic covers international law, law of the sea, human rights, maritime law, insurance law and dispute resolution.

Simon has teaching and marking experience in a range of subjects including business law (contract, torts, consumer law, company law and land law), insurance law, equity and trusts and torts. Simon has experience in private tutoring covering a range of modules in Australia, England and Scotland. He also has experience tutoring in areas such as mooting (having been a mooting judge many times) and legal research and writing skills. For example, Simon offers guidance in:
• Assignments, exam preparation, strategy and exam time management
• How to interpret short answer questions in exams. Choosing between broadly and narrowly worded questions
• Approaching problem questions in exams, supervisions and assignments: issue spotting, analysis and structuring answers
• Using IRAC to examine live issues Making use of all the clues in the question
• How to prepare and use attack plans, notes and past papers to prepare for exams
• Making sure your cases and statutory references are up to date with the syllabus
• How to use journal articles/case notes to supplement course reading and monitor changes in law
• How to get involved in mooting, client interview, witness examination and negotiation competitions
• Using databases such as LexisNexis to quickly and efficiently locate cases, journal articles, statutes, regulations and other materials
• OSCOLA referencing (inc Zotero, Word, Latex integration)
