Information about Jasmine

Hello.

I am an experienced and passionate tutor currently in the 4th year of medical school degree in Brighton. I have a strong academic record having achieved all A* level at GCSE and A-level and a Sussex university scholarship.

I have 4 years of teaching and tutoring experience, with a variety of ages and levels. It is something I find incredibly rewarding and enjoyable and hope to continue with.

I have a thorough knowledge of the GCSE and A-level curriculum I teach to guide students through their exam preparation. Equally I encourage students to be inquisitive and to ask questions so they develop a thorough knowledge and enthusiasm for the subjects they are studying.

I can also guide students through UCAS applications and personal statement preparation, as well as UKCAT/BMAT exams for any students planning to apply to medical or dentistry school.

If you have any questions or would like to arrange a meeting to find out a bit more about the tutoring I offer and what you`d like to get out of the sessions please do contact me by phone or send an email.

I have a valid CRB check.

Other Interests

I have a keen interest in acting, performing in many plays most recently in The Tuesday Group as part of The Brighton Fringe Festival as well as performing in Brighton`s sell-out Medic Revue two years running at the Sallis Benney Theatre in Brighton. I also play the saxophone and the flute.

Availability: I am available weekday evenings and most weekends.

Willing to travel: 3 miles

Experience: Teaching experience

2008-2010: teaching English to and mentoring young girls of immigrant parents at the Baytree Centre in Brixton, south London.

2008-2010: Worked as a language assistant at Burntwood Secondary School, for students with English as a second language. Sat with students in lessons and tutored them during the exam period.

2008-2010: Co-founded and ran philosophy clubs in primary schools in wandsworth, South London, as part of the ‘philosophy for children initiative’.

2012-Present: Part of Brighton ‘Sexpression’ a student-lead initiative teaching sexual health and relationship education to secondary school children.

Summer 2010: teaching English in a village school in Galle, Sri Lanka. This gave me an entirely different perspective to education and has taught me important lessons of the core values of teaching.

Other experience

2011- Present: I am a BSMS Student Ambassador as part of the BSMS Outreach Programme, ‘BrightMed’. The programme aims to inspire and encourage local secondary students to apply to medicine.

2009-2011: Department of Education worked as a youth advocate for their Children and Youth Board. Consulted with young people on their reactions to government policies and voiced their opinions in meetings with government officials and ministers.

2009-2010: As a volunteer with CSV I ran art & craft classes at a nursing home for dementia patients.

2006-2011: Rosie’s café waitress at a busy delicatessen in Brixton, South London. Ran a team of 2-3 people opened and closed the shop, served customers, made lunches and coffees.

2011-2012 (Aug-Sept) worked on small farms in southern France to improve my French picking fruit, making apple juice and preparing deliveries.

I speak French to A2 level and basic Spanish.

I have completed Junior Sports Leadership Award, two-year course teaching sport to young people.
