Experience: I have been a personal tutor for two years, and taught at university for the same length of time. Tutoring is most effective when it is student-led, which is why I always ask my students what they want to work on, and use that as a basis for the study. I aim to teach the content, allowing the student to ask as many questions as they like, then give the student a chance to work through some problems, tackling the subject, and proving to themselves how much they have progressed. Using the syllabus for the required exam is an excellent way to check confidence in all areas.
