Information about Gemma
I am a highly dedicated and creative individual, having three years teaching experience supporting and teaching in a FE college as well as tutoring students with learning difficulties on a freelance basis. I have a first class honours degree in creative media practice and a PGCE. My specialist subjects are photography, moving image, Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator and Premiere Pro. I also have experience with Textiles and Graphic Design. Although I am creative media focused, I am willing to tutor students who would like support with Maths at Key Stage 1 and 2.
I believe creative arts can make a huge difference to our lives and well-being, and I have several students that have proved this. One of my recent successful students, who has severe dyslexia, passed their photography GCSE with top marks, after falling behind before I worked with them. We explored techniques and gain inspiration from artists that helped their work further. Another recent dyslexic student wanted to pursue their hobby in creative media and by doing these sessions, they have gained more confidence and other tutors have seen the difference in other subjects.
From working in a college, there are so many ways to teach a subject. As I am creative media focused, I find visuals can really help focus and support learning. I am also very patient and happy to go over anything you are unsure of until it makes sense!
