I decided to become a teacher because I thought it would be an exciting and rewarding career, and my experiences at a range of schools and colleges across North West England have fully endorsed this view. I have developed a genuine passion for working with, motivating and developing young people and I believe that being a teacher has provided me with the opportunity to make a difference. I have become very aware that in the twenty first century, young people need vital transferable skills to enable them to become lifelong independent learners and that acquisition of knowledge is simply not enough.

Having learned four languages myself, I have a clear vision of how a language should be taught. I am capable of accessibly explaining not only grammar and spelling but also difficult concepts of a language such as its syntax, semantics, stylistics and punctuation. These factors are essential for achieving language proficiency and are a suitable challenge for my students. I have proven that I have the ability to inspire and motivate pupils and there has been an improvement in students’ engagement and attainment since I took over the planning and delivery of the MFL curriculum throughout to KS5.

I have introduced enrichment ideas across the MFL curriculum which have included using a range of authentic media resources to engage pupils with MFL topics and help them to see the relevance in their lives. I have also been holding private after school Dual Languages sessions in Spanish, French, German and Russian for gifted and talented pupils, with most students having now achieved A* in two languages at GCSE. Building positive relationships with my students has helped to facilitate their learning in my lessons and ensure that even the most challenging pupils are engaged, motivated and on task.

In addition, I understand the requirements of the 11+ exam and the difference it can make to a child’s future life is they pass it. Through work with Year 6 pupils during previous transition days, and assessment of pupils early in Year 7, I have become very aware of some important issues surrounding transition from primary to selective secondary school. I have a proven track record of success in this area and will do everything possible to prepare your child for the exam by carefully tailoring my sessions to meet their needs and closely monitoring their progress throughout.

My current experience, combined with my aspiration and creativity would allow me to be the perfect tutor for you or your child.
