Information about Jane

I have taught in higher education since 1993, initially in adult education and latterly (2005) when I joined the University of Winchester, as a senior lecturer in social work. I have recently been awarded a Doctorate in Education. I have experience in working with undergraduate and Masters students as a module leader and personal tutor. I have taught a variety of subjects as part of the Social work degree - ie Law and Ethics, Psychology, working in organsiations, Child development, Critcal thinking skills, Attachmentt theory, Community Development, Sociology, Communication skills, Research (at Msc level), Project management etc
I am a registered social worker and have supported over 250 students since joining Winchester, as well as being an indpendent practice educator since 2010 for students in practice.

Experience: I have undertaken several pieces of qualitative research on the health and social needs of Gypsies and Travellers for agencies such as the University of central Lancashire, Community Action Hamp-shire and the local authority. In 2014 I took a leading role in the accommodation needs assessment of Gypsies, Travellers and Travelling Showpeople for the consortium of district councils in Hamp-shire. has a background in social work with the children and families team of an area office. Her passion has always been in community arts and community development work in communities which are disad-vantaged by exclusion and isolation. It was during my work in an inner city as a community worker, that I first began to work with Gypsy families on various sites and I imitated a number of projects aimed at challenging discrimination. I have facilitated a number of training programmes on culturally competent practice and Cultural Humility, for staff within a variety of front line services. In addition, I have appeared on local and national television in advocating for sledom heard groups as well as speaking at a number of conferences and local and national radio about my area of interest. In my past role as general manager of a voluntary organisation for a period of 16 years, I instigated a range of successful initiatives in working with families in rural and urban areas of deprivation.
