Hi, I’m Caroline, a friendly and professional tutor, specialising in Maths.

I have a 1st Class MMath (Hons) degree and a PhD in Applied Mathematics from the University of Manchester. As well as the highest academic qualifications, I also have a patient nature and a natural aptitude for explaining complex subject matter in an accessible manner.

I spent over 10 years working in technical consultancy roles before taking a career break after having my little boy. I am now focusing on tutoring as I enjoy seeing how my tutees have developed not only their maths skills, but also their confidence.

I am fully DBS checked and have safeguarding training through my work as a trustee for a local charity who provide horse riding lessons for children with disabilities.

Experience: Through my academic studies and research positions, I have been heavily involved in teaching and tutoring for over 15 years, from GCSE level up to undergraduate through Schools & Colleges Liaison, Distance Learning and Foundation Year schemes.

I have been tutoring full-time since 2017, during which time I have developed resources, notes, lesson plans and examples, which can be tailored to the needs of each individual student. As a full-time tutor, I am familiar with all the major exam board specifications and am aware of the subtle differences between them.

After moving to online tuition during the coronavirus pandemic, I have now delivered over 500 hours of online tuition to students as far away as New Zealand. I use Zoom, together with an online whiteboard with excellent functionality for teaching maths. I have found online tuition to be incredibly effective, being able to set and mark homework on the whiteboard and provide pdf copies of tutorial notes where required. For this reason, I am focussing on delivering online tuition going forwards.

As a tutor, I tailor my sessions to the requirements of my tutee, whether that be exam practise papers, in-depth explanation of difficult subject matter, confidence-boosting or anything else. Most commonly, each session will focus on a particular topic. We start with a recap of the basic theory and key ideas, moving on to example question. These will build in difficulty as the session progresses so that the student builds confidence as their knowledge progresses.
