Information about Siobhan
I have always loved reading and writing, but fully understand that many people don`t and have barriers to their success in these areas.
My passion for helping young people to develop their skills, confidence and hopefully their love of this subject led me to being a Head of English in a successful secondary school.
Recently, I have based myself working from home for a while, primarily working for a national company which shares strategies and resources with around 3,000 schools across the country and I am also an examiner for a leading examination board for both Language and Literature. Working from home means I have the flexibility to take on tutees whilst remaining at the forefront of educational change by working on a strategy executive team in the largest educational company of its kind, as a lead for our English team creating resources and strategies for schools across the UK and examining the current Language and Literature specifications.
My passion lies with helping individuals to achieve in areas they struggle and tuition is an excellent way for students to access this support one-to-one to help build their confidence and skill-set, not just for examinations but for life as well.
Availability: Flexible - please contact me to discuss.
Willing to travel: Home Only
Experience: I have worked with young people in varying ways for the last fifteen years.
I am a qualified English and Drama teacher, from the University of Cambridge, with experience of teaching 11-18 year olds.
My most recent teaching post was Head of English and Media in a successful secondary school. Prior to this, I was a Key Stage 4 Co-ordinator and Lead Practitioner, overseeing a significant increase in GCSE results.
Since having my son, I have chosen to base myself at home for a while and so, in addition to tutoring, I also work for a national company, sharing resources and strategies to help boost schools` and students` success and am also an examiner for a leading exam board for both Language and Literature.
In terms of my subject experience, I have a degree in English and American Literature and a Masters degree in the Long Eighteenth Century, thus having explored key areas and issues within the first few decades of the nineteenth century which is now a key part of GCSE Language and Literature specifications.
I qualified as an English and Drama teacher from the University of Cambridge and also have a Masters degree in Education from this university as well, with a research thesis focusing on strategies for developing students` independent critical thought towards texts.
Feedback For Siobhan (3)
Siobhan was a friendly and competent tutor. She prepared my son extremely well for his GCSE English exams who when on to achieve great results in both language and literature.
I contacted Siobhan for help with my daughter who if she was lucky was being predicated Grade 4s in GCSE English Language and English Literature.
Siobhan gave an immediate response to my call for help and agreed a 4 month plan of an hour a week to get my daughter back on track with the aim of achieving solid Grade 5s.
The standard and style of tuition can only be described as amazing with my daughter suddenly enjoying the subject and surpassing expectation with a Grade 7 in Literature and Grade 6 in Language.
Siobhan is undoubtedly a top class tutor and is highly recommended to achieve results.
Our son has found the English Language lessons very helpful and is much better prepared and more confident about his GCSE. Siobhan has a friendly, clear and focused approach to her tuition and he found it very easy to talk to her about areas he didn`t understand in the subject. She produces lots of different material to help improve the students understanding of the subject. She is a caring tutor who always wants to do the best for her students.
