I am an Outstanding English teacher and encouraging SEND expert with over 10 years of experience in education. Having now left teaching, I am keen to continue supporting students of English, to inspire their love of learning, reading and writing.

The key to a successful tutoring relationship is understanding and responding to your child`s needs. I am inquisitive and highly adaptable to each of my students, supporting them to achieve success beyond their own expectations, whether that means securing Grade 9s - or learning to use punctuation! My belief that every child can achieve academic success underpins my enthusiastic yet patient approach to tutoring.

I am available to tutor English from KS3 upwards. I especially enjoy tutoring at GCSE level, as this is such a crucial step in young people`s educational journey.

Subject knowledge:
- I hold a 1st class degree in English Literature and a Masters with Distinction in Nineteenth-Century Studies from the University of Sheffield, where I graduated top of my class.
- I have been a GCSE Examiner for AQA for 3 years
- My PGDE in Leadership in Education specialised in cognitive science strategies to support children with SEND.

Teaching and tutoring expertise:
- I was graded Outstanding in every category when I qualified as an English teacher.
- I have a proven record of securing success for my pupils, including grade 9s.
- I have taught English across multiple exam boards including AQA, Edexcel and Cambridge iGCSE
- I am experienced in tutoring home educated children.

Special educational needs:
- I was previously a tutor at The Brilliant Club, supporting high-achieving A-level students to access the UK`s most competitive universities
- As a former Head of Year, I have extensive experience of supporting children with a range of complex educational, social, emotional and mental health needs.
- I currently work in mental health and am well-attuned to the mental health challenges young people experience
- As a former Director of EAL, I have experience of teaching English as a foreign language and English as an additional language.
