I have extensive experience teaching KS3, GCSE and A Level English over the course of seven years. During this period, I have worked extensively with GCSE Level 3 students, supporting them to achieve Level 4 - 8. My students have showcased some incredible improvements with Level 2 students achieving Level 8 within the space of one year`s tuition. My A Level students gained a greater insight into the texts they studied because of my studies of Literature and Language at A level.

I can help you or someone you know by scaffolding their knowledge of English - whatever area they may want help with. In particular, I can help develop skills required for GCSEs and A Level such as:

CORE READING SKILLS:
- Critical thinking and inference (how to interpret a text and words in particular)
- Understanding language and structural features (both of which are integral to showing a knowledge of how texts work)
- Deconstructing unseen texts (a key skill that the Language papers require)
- Comparing/contrasting ideas in texts (the literature and language papers now put a heavy emphasis on this skill)

CORE WRITING SKILLS:
- Analytical writing (essential for Literature and Language)
- Descri ptive writing
- Non-fiction writing

I can additionally offer more advanced skills such as:

READING:
- Advanced/sophisticated language and structural feature spotting
- Applying context to literature (especially Victorian for the likes of `A Christmas Carol` and `Jekyll & Hyde`)

WRITING:
- Sophisticated and effective development of vocabulary (fiction and non-fiction)
- Clever use of structural features to construct a story or descri ptive piece of writing

Currently, I also teach KS3 Music. I have sung and played the piano for eighteen years and frequently accompany/musically direct choirs, soloists, and shows. I`ve recently obtained Grade 8 Music Theory and can offer lessons on piano/singing performance and technique, composition, improvisation and music theory.
