Information about Bander

I am currently an undergraduate at King`s College London studying Economics in my final year. I completed my GCSEs and A Levels at Ashcroft Technology Academy and I have been tutoring ever since

I would say my defining points are definitely my friendliness. It is always nice to have a friendly tutor as students feel less intimidated and are more inclined to ask for help in order to improve their grades. Alongside my friendliness, I am also extremely patient - not everything is simply taught and all it can take is a small extra push to meet targets. I strongly believe that no matter the natural talent, any student can succeed just with a bit of extra help and someone to believe in them. Over the past few years as a tutor, from my experiences, I`ve seen this to be the case many times - students have been able to achieve beyond their predictions. This is what has motivated me through the previous years as nothing is more rewarding than seeing your students progress when they thought it was impossible.

Experience: I`ve been on both ends of the tutoring spectrum, as a tutor and a tutee! This means that I understand what a good tutee should deliver, and I also know what a tutor expects from me and can give to me.

I have been tutoring voluntarily for the last 3-4 years, and it started for me as a small scheme during Year 10 when the head of mathematics chose the top students in maths to stay behind and help struggling younger students, which was a very fulfilling experience and left a long lasting mark on me, seeing my students who were capped at a foundation grade exceed their teacher`s expectations who had no faith in them.

I have tutored 11+ and at a KS2, KS3, GCSEs and A Level stage. My speciality is within Mathematics and Economics, but at earlier stages I`m comfortable teaching anything English or Science related.

Whilst I believe the most effective way to get results is to familiarise oneself with exam styled questions and past papers, in particular with GCSEs and A Levels, I also ensure that an understanding surrounding the topics at hand is taught first. Whilst it`s great to be able to answer any question, I personally believe it`s even better to understand why they`re being asked this question from the core and to then tackle the problem at hand. This is why in lessons I`ve held and workshops I`ve conducted I like to make sure the students know the ins and outs of the content to what the syllabus exactly asks for, and then we tackle exam problems to consolidate and wrap their knowledge up.

(For Mathematics):
At a GCSE level I like to go over the topic completely and make sure the student understands the basics. We`d then work through the topic as it branches out, making sure our foundations are sturdy. And once we understand and have learned everything we`ll then apply it to past examination questions just to understand what`s expected from them and to also reassure them that they`ll do just as well in the real paper.

A Level:
A Level Maths is definitely intended to be challenging and looks as such, but I am adamant that this is by far the easiest A Level to do well in, compared to the Sciences and the Arts. A Level Maths has been extremely formulaic for literally years and I am so confident that given this information with a little heart and ample practice that anybody can succeed in it. Each module can be broken down to roughly 8 topics (e.g., C1 Edexcel), and with small steps this can very easily be conquered. My approach to this is to cover the content as fast as possible but paying attention to the content so that we can move onto past papers and exam styled questions. Once the foundations are built and we are confident with the topics then success is almost guaranteed.

Bander is a fantastic young man who has gone out of his way to bond with my teenage son. He is very polite, patient and punctual. My son thinks he’s very cool, he wouldn’t have got on with a different type of tutor. He is helping him tremendously with his maths and has empathy to challenges he has faced. Bander is very knowledgeable and always has a chat with me about his progress afterwards, tutor time is never rushed and we both feel like he genuinely cares. He is a pleasure to have in my home and we very much hope he will continue to help us. I can not recommend him enough,
